She sits down and takes off her shoes.
With her small hand in mine we walk towards the water.
The sand is warm on our feet.
She looks up at me and lets go.
Her determined face full of mischief as she breaks out into a run.
I watch her as she splashes around in a tidal pool.
I close my eyes and focus on the pure joy of the moment.
Hoping to stretch and bend time by shear will.
Carefree moments like these should last forever.
She reaches a lone pier on the sandy beach.
I gently lift her up.
She smiles and makes a face.
I enjoyed this poem. I still have young ones and wish that I could just freeze time. They are a joy to have but the moments are all to fleeting.
I just roamed around your blog and heard your story. It truly must be a very difficult time for you and your family. I know they’re is nothing I can do it say to make things better . . . But I wish I could.
The days are long but the years are short. This is beautiful Anna. I love the photo – what a dolly!
Exactly… And yes she is trouble that one.
❤
As always – beautifully written.
